Ripe Fruit Films was founded in 2008 to produce Chicago-based films about lesbian lives.

Tracy Baim, publisher of Windy City Media Group (Windy City Times), is executive producer of Ripe Fruit Films.

Chicago Playwright Claudia Allen is an executive producer of Hannah Free, a film based on Allen's play of the same name. Sharon Zurek is also an executive producer of Hannah Free, and the Editor and Post Supervisor for the film. Wendy Jo Carlton is a co-producer and is directing the film adaptation of Allen's work. Other co-producers include Music Composer and Sound Supervisor Martie Marro. Actress Sharon Gless is a producer of Hannah Free.
